Airsoft is a sport in which participants compete in military style simulations using airsoft guns which shoot soft pellets. You may be wondering who invented the airsoft gun. As a matter of fact, airsoft originated in Japan during the early 1980s. In Japan, it is illegal for citizens to own firearms, but many citizens wanted a way to collect firearms. When it comes to using airsoft guns for the purposes of hobbyist games and simulations, it is important to exercise proper safety precautions. An airsoft pellet can definitely hurt, and can even break the skin. It is especially dangerous for the eye area. This is why it is crucial to wear appropriate safety gear including a helmet with face shield.

Airsoft guns can shoot paintballs, but are different as far as how they operate. An airsoft gun operates via compressed gas, spring action or electronic firing devices while paintball guns are almost always powered using tanks of compressed gas. All in all, many collectors and players feel that paintball guns provide more accuracy over long distances. Airsoft guns are often collected for display purposes and never used at all. When it comes to hobbyist war games, paintball is probably going to be the more popular and engaging choice. Paintball is simply more widespread these days, with lots of facilities and fields located around the world.

If you display your guns as decorative collectibles, you can explain the history and lore of the airsoft gun to interested guests. Just make sure you display your guns in locked display cases, especially if you have children in the home.
