The Airsoft Gatling Gun: Historical and Collectible

If you're a serious collector of airsoft guns, then you simply must have an airsoft gatling gun in your collection. The gatling gun itself is steeped in history, having been invented all the way back in 1862. It was basically the first ever machine gun, as it could fire continuous bullets after being powered via hand crank or motor. Although the gatling was invented during the time of the Civil War, the United States chose not to purchase any. However, the gatling was eventually used by General Benjamin Butler in Petersburg and began to spread in popularity from there.

Because the gatling was heavy and bulky, it was eventually necessary for lighter, more portable versions to be designed. Although the gatling is rarely used today due to the popularity of automatic weapons, its design has carried over to various areas of weaponry including on helicopters, planes and ships. Modern technology has made the gatling design more effective than ever before. Although it is used less commonly, it is still a powerful tool for the military.

One of the most popular types of airsoft gatling is the miniature. Even this type is quite rare in the world of airsoft, however, so you may have to go for a custom built gatling. Custom airsoft guns are a lot more expensive than factory manufactured models, costing anywhere from $1000 to $5000 or even more. Airsoft guns were first invented in the early 1980s in Japan. There, it is illegal for citizens to own firearms. Japanese gun buffs needed a way to collect their favorite guns without breaking the law, so the airsoft gun was born.

These days, weapons like the airsoft gatling gun are purchased for one of two reasons: to use or to collect. The sport of airsoft is not as popular as paintball, but is quite similar in that both sports feature realistic military simulations and scenarios. Those who don't care to participate in airsoft often enjoy collecting and displaying different guns. This is because airsoft guns look very similar to real guns. They are so similar, in fact, that the U.S. requires all airsoft guns to have an orange tip to distinguish them from the real thing. There are lots of places to buy airsoft guns and supplies these days, including at sporting good stores and from online retailers.
